Founder & Bartender, Under the Armpits — Jakarta
My name is Imam Azai, and I’ve been bartending for over 21 years. Like many in this craft, I dreamed of having a bar I could call my own. That dream became reality with Under the Armpits, a place built not just for cocktails—but for connection.
The concept? Simple. It feels like my living room. Everyone who walks in becomes a friend, not just a guest. That’s where the name comes from—when you’re under the armpit, you’re close, you’re in, you’re part of the family. It’s not about fabrication. It’s about craftsmanship. Soul. Story.
For me, bartending is about more than drinks. It’s effort. Creativity. It’s the late nights and laughter, the full house and the energy that comes alive when team, guests, and vibe are all in sync. That’s when I know we’ve done something right.
If I could raise a glass with anyone, it would be my late brother, Adita Higuna. Just to celebrate one more good moment. One more cheers.
And when it comes to mixers, what I love about Candid is the balance—flavour that hits just right, sweetness that doesn’t overwhelm, and carbonation that lifts without overpowering. It gives me the freedom to create with confidence.
Cheers from Under the Armpits. You’re always welcome under ours.
